FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at approximately 10:44 PM, Baraboo Area Fire & EMS District was dispatched to S5671 CTY TK DL in the Town of Baraboo for a reported barn fire with animals inside. The first BAFED unit arrived on scene within four minutes of dispatch and found heavy fire showing from a barn located approximately 300 feet off the roadway. Crews initiated fire suppression operations and established a water shuttle to support sustained flow. Firefighters attempted to rescue animals inside the structure, but the rapid progression of the fire made entry unsafe, and the rescue efforts were unsuccessful. Multiple animals were lost as a result. Due to the large volume of straw bales stored inside the barn, fire suppression operations continued for approximately three hours to extinguish deep-seated hotspots. Even after thousands of gallons of water, not all the straw was fully extinguished, and an excavator was used to dismantle the remainder of the structure to prevent a rekindle from spreading to nearby structures. Baraboo Area Fire & EMS District was assisted on scene by: • Dells-Delton EMS • Lake Delton Fire Department • North Freedom Fire Department • Sauk City Fire Department • Alliant Energy • Sauk County Highway Department • Sauk County Sheriff's Department Coverage for the District during the incident was provided by: • Reedsburg EMS • Prairie du Sac Fire Department • Loganville Fire Department The cause of the fire is still under investigation. — Captain Jordan LaMasney
